Frenectomy

The frenum is a flap of fibrous tissue that attaches your lip to your jaw bone. Sometimes the frenum attaches too close to the teeth and can cause your two upper or lower front teeth to separate even after your orthodontist has closed the space. In your lower front teeth the frenum can actually pull the gum away from the teeth and cause recession. In either case a minor surgical procedure is needed to either remove or reposition the frenum.
